Classic Antique Replicas Furniture pieces commissioned for period buildings by commercial and private clients. Eighteenth century furniture makers like Chippendale, Sheraton, and Hepplewhite, are considered to belong to a golden age of furnituremaking, a time before the industrial revolution when the emphasis was on handskills - superior techniques allied to a complete understanding of the characteristics and properties of the materials. It was this golden age which inspired Andrew St. Ledger to set up Acanthus - an attempt to emulate with respect the past masters' acheivements . This was the late 1980s when many old crafts and traditions had died, to be replaced by bland machine-made objects devoid of soul. |
