Commissioned by Dublin Corporation to commemorate the life story of one of Dublin city's favourite sons Alfie Byrne, a politician and former Lord Mayor of Dublin. Designed in conjunction with architect Brian O'Brien, the bench has two thrones representing Alfie Byrne's ministerial and later mayoral duties. from left to right on the inner face side important events from Alfie Byrne's life are recorded for posterity as carved inscriptions, also the Byrne family crest is carved on the back of the larger throne. |
