The name Acanthus is synonymous with good design through the ages, and comes from the Greek plant of the same name.

Legend has it that whilst marble blocks were lying on the ground ready for erection of a Greek Temple, the Acanthus grew up round it and the tips of the leaves turned over, giving the impression of a volute, whilst the tendrils ran round the marble resembling a carved moulding.

Since then it has influenced the enrichment of architectural forms and artistic crafts in many materials, serving artists and craftsmen alike in their quest for beauty of form.

"the better the craftsman the more he has a secret instinct for continuity and permanence"
